Attractions

  • Ornithological Reserve of Sainte-Anne: Located near the Bay of the English, the Ornithological Reserve of Sainte-Anne with the îlets Hardy, Burgeaux, Percé and Poirier or Toisroux, is a natural reserve. It is one of the most important of the Caribbean for the nesting of the sea birds. The shores of Bay of the English are also among the most beautiful spaces of mangrove of Martinique.
  • Beaches: There are a number of beaches around Saint Anne, the Pointe Marin, Anse Caritan, Anse Meunier, the Salines, and Anse Trabaud. The beaches are perfect for soaking in the sun or enjoying a number of water activities such as swimming, waterskiing, sailing, scuba-diving, snorkelling and spearfishing. For the best bathing beaches head to Ste Anne, Le Diamant and Les Anses d'Arlets.
  • Diamond Rock: There is an interesting history associated with the rock. It is said that the British dropped sailors on the island of Martinique and registered the rock as a ship, the HMS Diamond Rock. The French, after 17 months of unsuccessful attacks on the rock, apparently set adrift a load of rum near the island. A short time later the French attacked the island of drunken sailors and retook the rock.
  • Piton Crève-Coeur: Located between Le Marin and Sainte-Anne, Piton Crève-Coeur, is an old extinct volcano whose ascension offers exceptional points view on the island of Sainte-Anne. You can see the salt marshes, the savanna of petrifactions, and some far away islets.

Dining

Fresh seafood is the speciality here and when on the island you simply must try the local dishes such as langouste (clawless Caribbean lobster), ecrevisses (freshwater crayfish), lambi (conch), requin (shark), chatrou (small octopus), sea urchin egg balls, crab and red snapper. For fine dining in elegant settings, head to Fort de France.

Nightlife

The focal point of all night entertainment is Fort de France. Here you can find a watering hole, bar, or nightclub of your choice. You can dance away the hours in a disco, try your luck at the casinos, enjoy listening to zouk, a form of music unique to the island or enjoy a folkloric dance troupe performance.
